Gardner Edgerton School District welcomed Deputy Commissioner Dr. Renee Nugent from the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) for an on-site visit focused on curriculum development and classroom instruction.

During her visit, Dr. Nugent met with members of the district’s Curriculum Council, who provided an overview of the new English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum development process. Council members shared how educators across the district are collaborating to ensure the curriculum is rigorous, aligned to state standards, and responsive to student needs.

Dr. Nugent also spent time visiting classrooms at Wheatridge Middle School and Gardner Elementary School, where she observed instruction and interacted with students. These school visits provided an opportunity to see teaching and learning firsthand and to better understand how district initiatives are coming to life in classrooms.

District leaders appreciated the opportunity to showcase the thoughtful work happening across Gardner Edgerton School District and to engage in meaningful dialogue with KSDE about curriculum, instruction, and student success. The visit highlighted the district’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality learning experiences for all students.
