As you may be aware, many districts in our region use a late-start schedule on certain inclement weather days, particularly when extreme cold or early-morning road conditions improve later in the day. Over the past several months, we have researched our options and developed a draft plan for implementing a late-start schedule in USD 231 this winter, should conditions warrant it.
Our goal with this plan is to keep students and staff safe while preserving as much instructional time as possible. When we consider a late start, we will evaluate multiple factors, including:
Student and staff safety, especially for walkers, bus riders, and drivers
Road conditions and the projected timing of road treatment
Wind chill and temperature trends throughout the morning
Visibility concerns, such as fog or drifting snow
Input from emergency management partners and neighboring districts
Our ability to safely transport students at a delayed time
Please review the SHARED document and contact your school with any questions.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work to make safe decisions during winter weather.
