Book Fair ... and many more things happening during the month

Dear Sunflower Families,
In December, administrators from our central office attended the Sunflower Site Council Meeting to inform us of the process that would be used to make boundary adjustments. We had a strong turn out with many parents and staff members in attendance. The gathering was informative with a lot of good questions from our families.
All members in attendance at the Site Council Meeting in December seemed to agree that another gathering to keep us updated on the process would be beneficial. Our central office administrators have been visiting Site Council Meetings at other schools in USD-231 over the last two months. At this time, there is not a lot of new information to share about the boundary adjustments. As a result, we are going to move the Site Council Meeting that was scheduled to take place at Sunflower on February 3, 2026 to a new date.
We will not have a Site Council Meeting at Sunflower on the evening of February 3, 2026. That Site Council Meeting has been rescheduled to take place on the evening of May 20, 2026. By that time, our school district should have more information to share about the progress we are making in the boundary adjustment process. The meeting on May 20 will take place in the library at Sunflower. It will begin at 5:00.
We look forward to seeing you at the Site Council meeting on the evening of May 20.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andy Wright
Principal of Sunflower Elementary School
P.S. - The PTO meeting scheduled to take place at 7:00 p.m. on February 3 will still take place in our library.

February conferences are quickly approaching!
On 1/26/25 you will receive a document with links to schedule your K-4 student conference. If you have an EC student, your child’s teacher will contact you prior to this date with your EC conference time so scheduling conflicts can be avoided for older siblings.
Spring conferences are facilitated by your child’s teacher and are often designed to be in-person and/or student-led. If your family will need a virtual option, you will need to contact the respective teacher to make him/her aware.

Dear Sunflower Families,
Welcome back, and happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful and joyful winter break filled with time with family, friends, and fun memories.
As you know, school will resume on Tuesday, January 6. We are excited to begin a new chapter of learning together. Our classrooms are ready, our teachers are eager, and we can’t wait to see all the smiling faces back in the halls.
Please know that we will not have early dismissal on January 7 or 21 this month. On those dates, school will dismiss at the regularly scheduled time of 3:20. We will have early dismissal (1:55) on January 14 and 28.
Also, our school will conduct a lockdown drill on Thursday morning this week. We plan to conduct that drill some time between 8:30 and 8:55. The lockdown drill is a safety measure that all schools in USD231 conduct regularly throughout the school year. Ensuring the safety of our students will always be the top priority.
Thank you to our families and staff for your continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to a great start to the second semester.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andy Wright
Principal of Sunflower Elementary School

We had a magical day at Sunflower. The Polar Express experience and classroom parties brought joy to children and adults alike. Truly, this heartfelt tradition is unique to our school community and one that our students will remember well into the future.
As we approach the holiday season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the year. We have had an outstanding first semester of the school year.
The dedication of Sunflower students, families and educators has resulted in academic growth in all grade levels, improved academic achievement scores and stronger attendance rates. These are clear signs that our children are engaged, supported, challenged and thriving.
These accomplishments reflect the strong connection between home and school. Your involvement, encouragement, and commitment to your children’s education make a meaningful difference every day.
As we celebrate the holidays, I hope this season brings you joy, rest, and special moments with loved ones. We look forward to building on this momentum in the coming year and continuing to help every child reach their full potential.
On behalf of the staff at Sunflower, I wish you a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andy Wright

For this day only, we kindly ask that all students who normally walk and enter through side or back doors please enter through the front entrance. Our staff will be there to welcome them, and we don’t want any walkers to miss this exciting start to their morning!
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us make this event extra special. We cannot wait to share the magic with all of our Sunflower families.
Thank you,
Sunflower Staff

I hope all is well. I am writing to remind you that today is a full day of school. Even though this is Wednesday on a full week of school... we will dismiss at 3:25 today.
Thanks,
Dr. Wright
Principal of Sunflower Elementary School

Dear Sunflower Families,
We hope this message finds you well! As the holiday season approaches, we are excited to inform you that we will be hosting a special holiday party for our students on December 18th. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate together, share in the holiday spirit, and create lasting memories.
As in years past, the main entryway and school lobby will be decorated in a Polar Express theme. For many years, students have delighted in the experience of entering the school surrounded by the festive decor of a wintery holiday scene. During the day, a delivery of hot chocolate will be made to each classroom for the students to enjoy with their classmates. As expected, each homeroom class will also have a winter party with their classmates.
As always, we appreciate the support and volunteer efforts of parents/guardians who plan fun activities for the students during the classroom party. Our students enjoy and appreciate the games, crafts, and delicious treats prepared by our parent volunteers. If you would like to contribute snacks or help with activities, please let the room representative know. Your support is greatly appreciated!
We are looking forward to a joyful celebration with our amazing students!
Sincerely,
Sunflower Elementary Staff

On behalf of the staff at Sunflower... Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Truly, we feel so fortunate and grateful for the opportunity to work with such an enthusiastic and kind collection of students at Sunflower each day. We have had a wonderful school year so far with great support and involvement from the families of our students.
We will return from Thanksgiving Break on Monday, December 1. A few weeks back, we sent word to you about a meeting that will take place in the library at Sunflower on the evening of Tuesday, December 2. Administrators from central office will be in attendance to inform families of the process that will be used to make boundary adjustments. These boundary adjustments are scheduled to go into effect for the 2027-28 school year. All families are invited and encouraged to attend. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the library at Sunflower.
I hope the time away from school offers you and your family the opportunity to reconnect, rest and rejuvenate.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dr. Andy Wright
