Dear Sunflower Families,
The safety and well-being of our students is the top priority at Sunflower Elementary. Throughout the school year, Sunflower (and all schools in USD231) invest time to practice safety drills with our students. Making sure our students and staff are aware of the procedures and expectations associated with each drill is an important safety measure for us to take.
Yesterday, we conducted a very successful fire drill with our students. Tomorrow (September 5), we will conduct a lockdown/intruder drill and a tornado drill sometime between 8:30 and 9:15. As you would expect, our staff takes great care in communicating with students as we prepare them for each safety drill. You can trust that developmentally appropriate conversations will be had in your child's homeroom before we conduct each drill this school year.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you!
Dr. Andy Wright
Principal of Sunflower Elementary School

We are excited to see you at Parent Information Night tomorrow evening (August 20). During Parent Information Night, your child's homeroom teacher will outline many of the academic goals and learning endeavors that we have in store for this school year. You will also learn about some of the events and activities for the school year.
As you know, our school district has launched "Rooms" as the primary communication platform for educators and parents to correspond with one another. If you are needing help setting up or navigating the "Rooms" app... we will have a station located in the library tomorrow evening. Casse Withrow will be present in the library to assist and answer any questions you may have.
Again, we look forward to seeing you at Parent Information Night on August 20.
Thanks,
Dr. Andy Wright

Dear Sunflower Families,
Thank you all so much for a terrific first week of school. Our students have done a really nice job welcoming new students to Sunflower and getting acclimated to the procedures of their classrooms. The start of the school year has been very smooth at Sunflower.
We are also very appreciative of our families who follow the safety procedures we have in place in the car rider line during arrival and dismissal. I am sure you have observed that we have many staff members actively supervising students during transition periods on our campus. In addition to being well-staffed outside of the building at arrival and dismissal, we always have a great deal of supervision and support taking place inside the building, too.
Now that we have reached the end of the first week of school, a vast majority of our students will be entering the building without a parent escorting them indoors. You can be confident that we have extra adults present each day in the lobby of our school who are available and ready to assist students to their classroom if needed.
Next week will be a full week of school with regular dismissal times each day. We do not start having early dismissal on Wednesdays until September 10.
We are looking forward to another great week of school. Please don't forget to attend Parent Information Night on August 20 if you are able (schedule below). As always, please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andy Wright
