Before firing up the grill this week, students learned some important safety basics, including keeping flammable items at least five feet away, having a hose ready for emergencies, and always respecting the power of fire.

PRMS students showed up in a BIG way for the Hope Market!
Seventh- and eighth-graders collected an incredible 2,639 items during their food drive, averaging about 10 donated items per student! The drive included some fun volleyball matches that helped build excitement and friendly competition with some special guests serving as line judges!
Way to go, PRMS, for turning a little friendly competition into a big show of support for the Hope Market!

Big things are taking off for this #WeAreUSD231 team through the NASA TechRise Student Challenge! 🚀 Out of 60 experiment proposals selected nationwide, their project was one of just 30 chosen for the high-altitude balloon division! After months of working with mentors from Future Engineers, their experiment is officially flight-ready and will launch this summer to study how high-altitude radiation impacts moringa oleifera seed germination.

The first-ever USD 231 Art Competition was organized by senior Kinsey Savage and brought together artwork from every USD 231 school and grade level in an impressive celebration of creativity and talent.

The exhibit featured a wide variety of artwork, including drawings, paintings, and sculptures created by students of all ages. Families, staff, and community members attended the event to support the young artists and admire their work.

One staff member shared, “This was one of the most impressive displays of talent I’ve seen in my eight years in this building.”

Awards were also presented to outstanding artists in several categories, making the evening both a showcase and a celebration of student achievement. Thanks to Savage’s leadership and vision, the inaugural USD 231 Art Competition was a tremendous success and a reminder of the artistic talent throughout our schools.

Preschool Field Day was filled with unforgettable moments ... laughter, connection, and so much joy. High school students stepped up in incredible ways, creating a “spirit tunnel,” leading activities, and making every preschooler feel seen and celebrated. WeAreUSD231 students delivered powerful performances at the Optimist International Speech Contest. 🎤✨
Speaking on “The moment I realized I belong, My definition of community,” all four students represented GEHS with pride and nearly swept the competition.
Congratulations to Cosette Davenport, who earned 2nd place and will advance to the next round with the chance to compete for up to $20,000 in scholarships, and to Landon Pitts, who took 3rd place. 👏
Shoutout as well to Skye Costlow and Madison Williams for their outstanding performances and for representing GEHS so well.

The Elite 8 Mentors faced off in a fun-filled bracket of minute-to-win-it games, bringing plenty of laughs and friendly competition.

Students from multiple districts gathered at Gardner Edgerton High School for a lively Hawaiian luau-themed dance designed for the special population, bringing together fun, friendship, and community.

Students from area schools joined in the fun, including West Franklin USD 287, USD 230, USD 464, and Tonganoxie-Basehor, along with our very own USD 231’s TOPS program. Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed music and dancing as well as a variety of activities, including games, snacks, face painting, and a popular photo booth.

This annual event is hosted through a partnership between Gardner Edgerton High School’s Interact Club and Cheer Team. Student volunteers played a key role in organizing and running the event, helping create a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for all who attended.

The dance continues to be a highlight of the year, giving students an opportunity to connect, have fun, and build lasting memories.

Seventh and eighth-grade choir students from Pioneer Ridge Middle School took their talents beyond the classroom, visiting a local nursing home to share an afternoon of music with residents. The full choir performed several selections, filling the space with energy and warmth, while smaller student groups also had the opportunity to showcase their voices.
The program featured a variety of songs, including patriotic pieces and timeless classics. The room came alive as many residents clapped and sang along, smiling, as familiar tunes brought back fond memories. The experience was meaningful for both #WeAreUSD231 students and residents, highlighting the power of music to connect generations and bring joy to the community. Way to go, students!
