She invited MLE 4th grade classrooms to join all district 4th grade classes in this project. Each 4th grade classroom will work together to plan a lunch menu that will be served to their school on a specified date in April. The classrooms will compete against one another (within their building) to see which menu generates the greatest participation among all students. The students will create marketing (posters, commercials, what can you dream up?) to generate excitement about their menu while highlighting nutritional aspects of their selections. Students will utilize a digital planning tool that lists the items students may choose from to help even the playing field. These items will be listed in a menu-planning spreadsheet where students can work independently or as a group to view all nutritional information as they are planning their meals. The winning classroom at each school will have the opportunity to win a class-selected prize.
