​Board of Education Approves GEHS Head Football Coach Position

The USD 231 Board of Education and administration are pleased to announce the hiring of the new Gardner Edgerton High School Head Football Coach, Mr. Jesse Owen. 

Mr. Owen will assume the duties of Head Football Coach on July 1, 2021. Owen will enter his seventh year as a head football coach. His head coaching tenure includes one year at Eudora High School and five years at Olathe East High School. During that time, Jesse was named the Kansas City Chiefs High School Coach of the Week twice.  Prior to becoming a head coach, Owen was an assistant football coach at Olathe North High School for eleven seasons. During his time at Olathe North, the Eagles played in four State Championship games, winning twice. 

Before starting his coaching and teaching career, Mr. Owen helped lead Olathe North to its first State Championship as a player. Jesse was an All-State, All-Metro, and Simone Finalist for Olathe North High School.  Owen also received All-Conference honors as a running back at Pittsburg State University.    

Mr. Owen earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Pittsburg State University in 2002 and his master’s degree in School Leadership from Baker University in 2011. 

Jesse is an outstanding physical education teacher who resides in Gardner with his family; wife Diane, daughter Taylor, age 11, and son Eli, age 8.

“We are excited to bring Coach Owen into our athletic department at Gardner Edgerton High School,” said Scott Peavey, GEHS Athletic Director. “Jesse’s extensive experience, success, and knowledge will positively impact all of our athletic programs and athletes of all sports.
