USD 231 guidance counselors conduct classroom guidance lessons, counsel individual students, conduct small groups and consult with parents, teachers and other professionals.  We follow the USD 231 guidance counseling curriculum which is based on the Kansas Guidance Counseling Standards.  Counselors serve the learning community with support for all students through typical stages of development.  Classroom guidance lessons also support the Six Pillars of Character which are:  Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Citizenship, Trustworthiness, and Fairness.

Students may be seen by the counselor when:  parents request the counselor meet with their child, students request guidance, or administrators, teachers, or other school staff refer the student.

Group counseling topics include, but are not limited to: friendship/social skills, study/organizational skills, anger management, and family changes.
