School Policies & Procedures
Tardy Policy
School begins promptly at 8:25. It is our policy to issue a school extension after a third tardy. Students are asked to make up the time missed in a 30 minute session after school. It is important for us to have our students here and ready to go when the bell rings! Thanks for your help in teaching our children to accept responsibility!
Eating Lunch with Your Student
Please contact our school cafeteria at 856-3760 by 9:00 a.m. if you wish to eat a hot lunch at school with your child. The cost of a hot lunch for an adult is $2.95.
Interpreter Services
If you need the services of a sign language interpreter for conferences or school programs, please notify the school office at least two weeks in advance.
Traffic Flow in the School Parking Lot
We continue to solicit your help to ensure the safety of all students at arrival and dismissal times.
As you enter the school parking lot, please turn right and proceed to the student drop-off zone. This drive has been marked for student loading along the front sidewalk, with the exception of the space between the crosswalks. We ask that drivers please remain in your vehicle during the unloading and loading process. School staff members are available to assist with loading. For safety reasons, students should plan to load on the passenger side of the car.
Once you have dropped off or picked up your child, please remain in the line of traffic and proceed to the far south end of the drive. Exit to your left.
There is NO PARKING along the front drive or on the curve to exit the drive. Parents may choose to park in one of the regular parking lots and escort their child to their car. No child is allowed to cross through the parking lot unescorted! Please use the crosswalk at all times.
Bus traffic will enter and exit from the back of the building. Students are loaded on the bus at the back playground. All students are supervised for bus loading. The roadway on the east side of the building is a private drive and will not be open for thru traffic. Gates to the back drive will remain locked during the school day for the safety of the children on the playground.
Safety Drills
Fire safety drills are held each month. Storm Drills will be held in August, February, and March. A Code RED drill is scheduled for October and again in the spring. Our School Resource Officer will help coordinate these drills.
Project Plus and Special Reading
Sunflower students will continue to benefit from the extra support provided in the area of math and reading. Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Nichols will serve various groups of students needing assistance mastering a particular math or reading skill based on assessment results and teacher observation. The students may receive help within the classroom or may be taken for a short lesson in the Project Plus or Special Reading classrooms. Students may receive this help until the targeted skills have been mastered. The classroom teachers will be working closely with our support teachers in order to assist every child in mastering grade level skills. If you are interested in more information about these programs contact Mr. Mortenson.
