Gardner Edgerton USD 231 serves the communities of Gardner and Edgerton in the southwest corner of Johnson County, Kansas. At the heart of two growing communities, Gardner Edgerton schools currently house approximately 5,450 students. The district includes six elementary schools (K-4), two middle schools (5-8) and one high school (9-12). January 2012, USD 231 voters approved a $72 million bond issue to provide a new elementary school, middle school, Multipurpose Activity Center addition to the high school, updates to districtwide technology and many capital improvements. The elementary school will be ready for students in fall of 2013. The middle school will open fall of 2014.

Test Scores
Gardner Edgerton schools continue to perform at exemplary levels on the Kansas State Assessments each year.
Gardner Edgerton students achieved the prestigious State Standard of Excellence designation in 64 out of 67 possible opportunities district wide. Designations were achieved in 39 of 40 grade levels taking the state assessments in reading and math, and 7 of 9 possible tested grade levels in science. In addition, all eight schools that tested more than one grade level in reading and math earned the Building-wide Standard of Excellence earning 18 out of 18 possible.
To add to the remarkable results, 100 percent of students at Sunflower and Gardner Elementary schools met the state standard or better on the math test, 100 percent of Gardner Elementary school students met the state standard or better on the reading test, and 100 percent of students at Edgerton, Gardner, Madison, Nike and Sunflower met the state standard or better on the science test.
Since 2006, USD 231 schools have received twenty-seven fourteen Governor's Achievement Awards, ranking them among the top 5 percent of schools in the state of Kansas. Gardner Edgerton schools have achieved Adequate Yearly Progress each year, and are well positioned to meet the increasing demands of No Child Left Behind.
